Figueras, Spain in the region of Catalonia, was the hometown of Salvador Dali. The surreal Teatre Museu Dali attracts many visitors. Figueres is about 40 km from Girona, 140 km from Barcelona, 60 km from Perpignan and 50 km from Girona-Costa Brava Airport. You can reach Figueres by road from France or Girona via the Autopista del Mediterráneo. The Salvador Dalí Museum can be distinguished from a long way off by the perspex dome composed of honeycomb-like elements which now crowns the old Neo-Classical theater (1850) housing the museum. The true heart of the city, and the best area for exploring on foot, is La Rambla, where a variety of notable Modernist and Neoclassical buildings are concentrated.
